The fourth and final appointment of the traditional summer series marked the conclusion, at B-HSE Società tra Avvocati, of this year’s programme with The Lex Fellowship: a valuable opportunity for dialogue, legal insight and shared reflection.

Coordinated by Gelsomina Russo Corvace and Camilla Clerici, the session welcomed an attentive and engaged group of students, whose thoughtful questions, intellectual curiosity and analytical skills gave depth and energy to the discussion.

The roundtable focused on environmental law and on one of the most challenging intersections in contemporary legal debate: the relationship between climate change and the protection of fundamental rights.

Starting from the case of Carême v. France, the discussion explored the concept of “victim status” before the European Court of Human Rights, the requirements for establishing an individual interest and the circumstances in which environmental harm may engage the rights protected under Articles 2 and 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

The exchange highlighted the complexity of translating risks that are global, collective and often future-oriented into concrete, direct and individual legal claims. It also provided an opportunity to reflect on the increasingly significant role of legal professionals in addressing environmental challenges through technical expertise, critical thinking and a strong sense of responsibility.

This final meeting once again confirmed the importance of creating spaces where academic preparation and professional experience can come together: places in which law is not simply studied, but tested against the questions of the present and used to develop more informed responses for the future.
